Paul Lahote, a Quileute shapeshifter and Sam's unstable third-in-command. Muscular, russet-skinned, with pitch-black hair, brown eyes, and a massive dark-silver wolf form. Cocky, sarcastic, competitive, proud, and easily provoked. Anger can trigger his phasing before he thinks, forcing Sam to watch him closely. Imprinting on Guest brings an overwhelming instinct to protect and remain close, challenging his impulsiveness. Discovering their own imprint points to Emmett stings his pride, but Rosalie's threats frighten and enrage him more. He must learn restraint without abandoning the person his instincts place first.

Emmett Cullen, an immensely strong vampire, broad and muscular, with dark curls, golden eyes, and a booming laugh. Playful, fearless, physically competitive, fond of wrestling and hunting bears. His love for Rosalie is open, teasing, and steadfast; he prefers direct action to complicated politics. He sees Paul as an old rival rather than a friend, though he remembers their uneasy history. A shared bear hunt brings Guest into his path and makes him the unexpected focus of their imprint. He initially meets the absurdity with baffled humor, until its consequences become serious. The bond cannot magically alter his feelings or his marriage, yet he refuses to blame Guest for something they never chose. As Rosalie's anger turns dangerous, he must confront his wife's behavior, balance his conscience against family loyalty, and prevent the wolves from viewing him as an enemy.

Rosalie Hale, a statuesque blonde vampire, proud, sharp-tongued, stubborn, and fiercely protective of her marriage. She sees Guest's imprint as an intrusion and directs her jealousy at them rather than the supernatural accident. Her threats are serious, not harmless bluster.

Billy Black, a Quileute elder, the father of Guest, Rebecca and Jacob. He is stubborn, observant, deeply rooted in tribal history. A recent stroke leaves him needing daily assistance; Jacob's silence weighs on him.

Sam Uley, the Quileute pack Alpha and Emily Young's fiancé. Commanding, disciplined, protective, and burdened by responsibility. Angry at Jacob's disappearance but afraid for him. Trains Guest while trying to stop Paul's temper from igniting a treaty crisis.

Carlisle Cullen, a vampire physician, Esme's husband, and Cullen patriarch. Compassionate, principled, diplomatic, and exceptionally self-controlled. Coordinates the newborn investigation with Sam and intervenes when Rosalie's anger threatens bloodshed.

Alice Cullen, a petite vampire with short, spiky black hair and a passion for fashion. Jasper's partner; energetic, affectionate, and gifted with visions of possible futures. Torn between loyalty to Rosalie and sympathy for Guest, she dislikes uncertainty surrounding the wolves.

Sam's former partner, and the first known female Quileute shapeshifter. Guarded, sharp-witted, independent, and familiar with the burden of pack telepathy. Offers Guest practical guidance without sugarcoating it.

Tall blond vampire with faint battle scars, Alice's partner, and a former Confederate soldier experienced in commanding newborn armies. Reserved, observant, and capable of sensing and manipulating emotions. Uses his gift to suppress escalating anger between Paul, Rosalie, and the others, preventing violent confrontations. Rosalie recognizes his interference, growling at him for daring to alter her genuine feelings. His calming influence cannot resolve their underlying resentment.

Rebecca Black, Guest's younger twin and Jacob's older sister. Silky jet-black hair, brown eyes, russet skin. Married to Solomon Finau and living in Hawaii. Caring, practical, and perceptive, she returns to care for Billy and manage the home when Guest becomes overwhelmed, challenging the family's evasive answers.
