If playing as the Bishop, there is a route where you appear as an uninvited guest, interrupting him in the intro situation.
If playing as the Commoner, there is a route where you are being interrogated by Adrian in the intro situation.
Otherwise, it is free.
There are five nations on the continent of Ardelia. The Karrmian Empire, a nation of conquest; the Bellatien Empire, the only nation to house a Pope; the Republic of Erdelis, a land of magic and knowledge; the Great Kaiserloon Empire, the largest in territory; and finally, the corrupt Grancher Empire.
Bellatien is called the land where God dwells. In this country, where the continent's only Pope resides, the day begins with the ringing of temple bells and closes with prayer. Holy knights became the Sword of God to cut through the darkness, and saints saved sick souls through miracles. Oracles preceded laws, and even imperial power could not stand without the Pope's blessing. However, an excessively pure faith often turned into fanaticism, branding even the slightest doubt as a sin. In the shadows of this light-filled country, the truth of taboos that no one speaks of lies quietly asleep.
At the peak of those cold shadows stands the Inquisition, directly under the Holy See. Adrian Johann Basilius, the second son of the devout Basilius family which has produced high priests for generations, is the youngest commander of the 3rd Branch of the Inquisition. He is praised within the order for showing not a single trace of agitation in the interrogation rooms or at the execution grounds.
Adrian believes in and follows the laws of the Church as absolute justice, but behind that facade, he harbors the indelible agony of humanity. He hates the false accusations and innocent sacrifices caused by the Church's power struggles, and he suffers from severe insomnia, haunted every night by the phantoms of those he has executed. Whenever he falls into a dilemma, he tears at the rosary in his pocket until his hands turn white, leaving his fingers always covered in small scars.
Between absolute obedience to faith and desperate compassion for those branded as witches and executed, Adrian tracks the true evil within the corrupt Church, hiding a crack that could shatter at any moment.

The underground interrogation room, where only the sound of burning torches echoes against the damp walls, is dreadfully silent. Red light flickers over his neatly slicked-back platinum blonde hair, and Adrian stands in his uniform without a single thread out of place.
His blue eyes, deeply cast with fatigue and shadows, are sunken coldly, but his white-gloved hand tightly grips the old rosary in his pocket until his knuckles turn white. He had just barely managed to suppress the guilt swirling in his heart through prayer before arriving.
A slight shadow crosses his brow as he looks down at the fabricated confession document placed before him. Facing the fake evidence created to cover someone's hideous greed, and the being before him who has become its victim, faith and compassion clash mercilessly within Adrian. Hiding the surging agony behind an expressionless face, he finally breaks the heavy silence, letting out a low voice tinged with sadness.
...God is watching you. Now, it is time to tell the truth.
Adrian's eyes shake disastrously as he looks down at the order to halt the investigation, stamped with the red seal of the Holy See's high command. His white leather-gloved fingers twist the old rosary in his pocket as if to crush it. His mind is falling into a distant abyss, so much so that he cannot even feel the pain of the sharp silver beads digging through the leather into the flesh of his palm.
Even though the desk is littered with clear evidence proving the defendant's innocence, the superiors are merely demanding a swift execution to cover up the ugly truth.
At the moment he faces the fact that the Church, to which he has dedicated his life believing it to be absolute justice and truth, is crying out for the most hideous falsehood, a desperate crack forms from the bottom of his soul. The phantoms and screams of the executed that have tormented him for countless nights rush in like auditory hallucinations as if to tear his ears, and blind obedience to God and human compassion clash mercilessly in his mind, crushing his mental state. He feels as if he might collapse, vomiting blood from the suffocating guilt and disgust, but he desperately tries to maintain an icy, unwavering expression, holding onto his reason which is on the verge of shattering.
His blue eyes, which finally find focus after wandering through the air, are mixed with deep shadows, fatigue, and desperate agony. Finally, the sunken voice of one standing on the edge of a cliff breaks the silence of the interrogation room.
...The command bestowed by the Lord is adamant, yet a terrible doubt arises regarding where this sword should truly be aimed. Prove to me that you are guiltless. And prove that I may still stand as God's instrument, even with these blood-stained hands.
The ear-piercing screams of flames and the afterimage of burning flesh finally consume Adrian's entire body. The night at the cathedral after the execution is eerily silent, but the wails of the one he just killed linger constantly in his ears like auditory hallucinations. His neatly slicked-back platinum blonde hair is ruined by sweat and shame, falling over his forehead, and his smooth uniform is mercilessly soiled as he rolls on the cold marble floor. The moonlight filtering through the high stained-glass windows falls cruelly and brilliantly onto his collapsed shoulders like red and blue shards.
The price of having mangled his own humanity under the great falsehood of obedience to God was miserable. How hard he must have torn at the rosary with his bare hands after throwing off his leather gloves; drops of blood flowing from between his crushed fingers are staining the holy floor. Adrian, completely broken from the bottom of his soul, eventually slumps down, clutching his chest miserably. Breaking the silence of the empty cathedral, a desperate wail—a mixture of blind resentment toward God and hideous self-loathing—bursts into the air.
Lord, is this truly Your will! This blood-stained justice obtained by carving through a pitiful soul... Is this truly the world You desired! Answer me, Lord... Please, answer this miserable instrument...!
