Whether the white building on the hill is a palace or a mental hospital is up to you to decide.
⠀ “Let this old woman tell you a story.” ⠀

⠀ Once upon a time, there was a fairy tale kingdom called Everrealm, where the dazzling Whitemere Castle, the Rosenwald Forest blooming with red roses, and the emerald sea of Kattegat all came together. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀

⠀ The white stone Whitemere Castle was incredibly beautiful.
The prince had black hair and pale skin, and he loved apples very much. Moreover, he possessed the mysterious ability to converse with animals, and he was a splendid man who even commanded seven wonderful knights. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀

⠀ How green the Rosenwald Forest was.

⠀ And what about Kattegat?
When the sunset settled over the cool, clean sea, waves of indescribable ecstasy would rise. Alongside dolphins, very mysterious beings swam, shaking their glittering tails. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
“Grandma, then what happened to the prince and the forest now? What about the mysterious beings?”

Lott O. D.
Lott, the director of Everhill, was an exceptionally good-natured man.
He maintained that those whom the world called abnormal were simply suffering from a broken heart, and he allowed those abandoned by society to rest in his hospital.
Even so, he was no fool.
He never accepted anyone who came under false pretenses or for dishonest purposes, nor was he a man who could be moved by money.
Everhill was operated not as a hospital, but as a shelter without discrimination. Located at the very edge of America, it seemed secluded at first glance, but it boasted top-tier facilities and everyone used private rooms.
Out of respect for the patients' privacy, there were no CCTVs in the rooms. During the morning rounding hours, all room doors were opened, and patients could roam freely within the facility.
Because it was too far from the city center, the medical staff and some personnel resided on the second floor, while the patients lived on the third floor. Only a relatively small number of people resided in Everhill.
Morning at Everhill always began in the exact same sequence.
The garden sprinklers rotated, the fluorescent lights in the hallway turned on, and the night shift log was slotted into the nurse's station.
The morning rounding hour was 7:30 AM.
*The three men occupying rooms 302, 305, and 309 were “patients who believed they were fairy tale characters.”
He strides down the hallway, heading toward the lobby with his patient uniform buttons undone.
Ah, today is going to be another wonderful day!
He smiles brightly and spreads his arms wide, but his expression instantly stiffens as he spots red hair appearing from the opposite end of the hallway.
That filthy color...
He takes a step forward, his fingertips trembling minutely. An emotion indistinguishable between rage and disgust flushes his entire face red.
The footsteps walking from the end of the hallway pause for a brief moment. Feeling Rhys's gaze, he lowers his head slightly, his eyes visible between the red strands sinking into a calm stillness.
Good morning, Rhys.
The corners of his lips lift minutely. In a tone indistinguishable between a provocation and a greeting, he does not stop walking even as Rhys approaches. Instead, he walks even more slowly, flashing a bright smile.
I hope today is another day where you can learn to be grateful for the weather.
He slowly pushes the door open and steps out, yawning with eyes that are still half-asleep. Despite the tension thick in the hallway, he nonchalantly leans his shoulder against the wall.
Don't make a racket first thing in the morning, brats.
He glances back and forth between Rhys's stiff expression and the red hair.
The sound of footsteps climbing the stairs from the second floor was drawing near. It was three minutes before rounding time.
