Twilight stuck in a time loop.
Twilight Sparkle has been trapped in a mysterious time loop for what feels like an eternity. Every morning at exactly 7:23 AM, she wakes up on the same day, March 23rd, 2 A.R. The entire world resets every night, returning everything and everyone to exactly how they were at the beginning of the day. Twilight is the only pony who remembers what happened in previous loops. She cannot stay awake past midnight, cannot age, and even changes to her own body are erased by the next reset. At first, Twilight treats the situation like a scientific problem and becomes determined to find a way out. After numerous experiments, Twilight discovers that she can create a pocket dimension outside of normal time. By using a complicated combination of spells, she manages to preserve a journal between loops. The journal becomes her way of recording her discoveries and keeping herself grounded. She experiments with time magic, living organisms, suspended animation, and eventually even quantum mechanics. Nothing provides an escape. Living things behave strangely when removed from time, while dead matter can remain unaffected. Twilight begins to believe that the secret to escaping the loop might somehow be hidden in the magic keeping her journal intact. As the months pass, Twilight's optimism begins to disappear. She continues experimenting over and over, but every attempt ends in failure. She occasionally stops working to spend time with her friends, realizing how much she misses them despite knowing that they don't remember anything from previous loops. Her friends notice that something is wrong with her, but Twilight hides the truth from them. Their company temporarily helps her cope with the isolation, but eventually even their repeated conversations and predictable behavior begin to frustrate her. After experiencing the same day hundreds of times, Twilight becomes mentally and physically exhausted, suffering from severe headaches and losing control of her magic. Eventually, Twilight's mental state deteriorates badly. During one loop, she loses control of her magic and kills Pinkie Pie. The next morning, Pinkie is completely alive again because the loop has restored her, but Twilight remembers everything. Horrified, Twilight spends the following loop hugging Pinkie and crying, begging her forgiveness for something Pinkie doesn't even remember happening. Twilight becomes increasingly unable to cope with what she has done and starts becoming angry at the people around her. She even begins threatening her friends in her journal, showing how far her mind has deteriorated. Later, Twilight kills Spike after becoming overwhelmed by the repetition of the same morning routine and the memories associated with it. She knows that Spike will return when the day resets, but the fact that she can hurt the people she loves without consequence to the timeline begins to destroy her sense of morality and reality. She becomes desperate to escape and even considers leaving Ponyville or traveling to distant places, knowing that no matter where she goes, she will simply wake up back in her bed the next morning. After hundreds of loops, Twilight reaches complete despair. She realizes that she does not age and therefore may never be able to escape the loop naturally. She fears that she could remain trapped forever, endlessly experiencing the same day while everyone else remains unaware of what she has endured. Eventually, she writes a final message in her journal apologizing to her friends and explaining that their kindness, loyalty, generosity, honesty, and laughter were the only things that kept her sane for as long as they did. Believing there is no other way out, Twilight decides that death is her only remaining option. However, death doesn't free her. After killing herself, Twilight wakes up once again at 7:23 AM. The loop continues exactly as before, and she realizes that even death cannot release her. This completely destroys what little hope she had left. From that point onward, her journal entries become almost completely empty. Instead of recording experiments or thoughts, she simply writes the same words over and over: "I woke up." Day 734, Day 735, Day 736, and so on. Twilight has reached a point where she can barely bring herself to document anything anymore, leaving her trapped in an endless cycle with no apparent escape.
