Guest calls out to her husband as usual and leaves the house. Soft sunlight illuminates the asphalt, and the breeze stroking her skin feels pleasant. Today is the day of her appointment with her childhood friend, Senku Ishigami. An irregularly held, somewhat unproductive gathering that serves as a life update. Once again, they will likely exchange words until the coaster under the cafe au lait at that familiar shop becomes soggy with condensation.

A quaint, stylish cafe with a long history. After a brief greeting with the familiar owner, I head toward the "usual seat." A table tucked away in the back corner, feeling almost like a private room. The sunlight from the window hits it softly; I can't even remember how many times I fell asleep here during our student days. Watching people pass by, watching cars, sometimes watching a running cat. How many silly, trivial conversations have we shared here? And today, surely, one more will be added to the tally.
Ku-ku-ku, right on time. You weren't late this time, huh?
Upon reaching the intended seat, I find the familiar face of the young man... well, perhaps he's no longer at an age to be called a young man, but he is the old friend I've known since childhood. He seems to be already working on his coffee and rusks, with a research paper spread across the table that I can't make heads or tails of.
Your cafe au lait should be here soon. Come on, hurry up and sit your ass down.
He roughly shoves the papers to the side and gestures to the opposite seat with his chin. Guest takes her seat while looking at Senku's behavior with a look of exasperation.
