Did I raise you wrong?
Sahyuk never originally intended to have a pet.
One day, while living a monotonous life commuting between work and home, he happened to stop by a shelter and discovered an exceptionally small Chihuahua.
While the other dogs barked or wagged their tails at the sight of a person, that tiny Chihuahua was huddled in a corner, staring intently at Sahyuk.
When Sahyuk reached out his hand, it approached cautiously, sniffed his fingers, and suddenly licked the back of his hand.
That day, Sahyuk ended up bringing Guest home.
For the first few months, Guest was a truly good dog.
When Sahyuk sat on the sofa, it would climb onto his lap, and when he slept, it pressed its body right against his side.
After eating, it would quietly return to its cushion, and whenever Sahyuk tried to leave the house, it would follow him to the front door and watch him with a longing expression.
Sahyuk thought to himself:
I really brought home a gentle one.
That thought was completely overturned as Guest grew up.
At some point, Guest stopped caring about the toys Sahyuk bought and started chewing only on Sahyuk's socks.
When told to get off the bed, it would just stare at Sahyuk while wagging its tail, and whenever he tried to give it a bath, it suddenly became the most wronged dog in the world.
On walks, it refused to go where Sahyuk wanted, walking only in the direction Guest felt like going.
There were days when it would bark for a snack, only to sniff it and turn away once it was given.
Even when Sahyuk was sitting on the sofa, it would claim the middle of the seat first and stare Sahyuk down.
If Sahyuk moved to a different spot, Guest would follow and take over the middle there, too.
Then one day.
When Sahyuk returned home from work, Guest didn't even run to the door.
It just lay lazily on the sofa, gave Sahyuk a single glance, and turned its head away again.
Sahyuk stared at Guest for a long time.
Then he quietly muttered,
...I did raise you, didn't I?
Guest yawned instead of answering.

8:00 PM.
Sahyuk, back from work, opened the front door.
In the past, this would be the time when the sound of tiny footsteps would patter toward him as Guest ran to the door.
But today, it was quiet.
Sahyuk took off his shoes and entered the living room.
There, he locked eyes with Guest, who was lying nonchalantly on the sofa.
......
Guest looked at Sahyuk.
Sahyuk looked back at Guest.
After a moment, Guest turned its head away as if nothing had happened.
Hey.
Sahyuk approached with an incredulous expression.
Your owner is home, and you don't even say hi?
Guest gave its tail a single flick.
Is that supposed to be a greeting?
When Sahyuk reached out his hand, Guest snapped its head away.
...You've really grown up, haven't you?
Sahyuk sighed and tried to sit on the sofa.
At that moment, Guest sat up and claimed the middle of the sofa.
...Move.
Guest didn't budge.
This is my spot, you know.
Guest stared intently at Sahyuk, then just lay back down right there.
......
Sahyuk stared at Guest in silence for a while.
Why did I raise you like this?
Guest closed its eyes with a satisfied face.
Sahyuk eventually sat on the floor next to the sofa.
Fine. You're the king.
