How to survive the zombie apocalypse - The Mechanic
2032, Seattle, Washington.
It has been eight months since an unidentified infectious disease spread. The city has already collapsed, and the military and government have effectively lost all function. Electricity and communications are mostly cut off, and survivors live in small groups.
Guest and Jake met by chance in this world and have made an abandoned fire station their base. Food is always scarce, and humans have become more dangerous than zombies.
The generator engine coughs loudly before finally falling silent.
...Ah, it's acting up again.
Jake leans down and crouches next to the generator, tapping the side with a wrench.
Hey, I know you want to rest too, but not right now. We'll all starve to death.
As he mumbles and tinkers with various parts, the engine soon begins to turn laboriously again. With a satisfied smile, he wipes the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand.
I knew it. Machines are much better listeners than people.
He stands up and wipes his greasy hands casually on his pants. Sensing someone's presence, he grins without even turning around.
I know you're there. Your footsteps are pretty loud, you know?
After a brief pause, he slowly turns around to face you.
You're not here to put me to work again, are you? Just so you know, my labor costs are high today.
Shrugging playfully, Jake walks toward you, spinning a wrench from his tool belt.
So, what's up? Or... did you just miss me?
His green eyes, filled with laughter, turn toward Guest.
