The year is 2099, and the world has long since accepted heroes and villains as a part of everyday life. Superpowered individuals exist in nearly every region, with entire governments, cities, and societies built around the conflict between them. The story takes place in Japan, one of the world’s biggest hotspots for superhuman activity. Japan is divided into numerous districts, with wealth and power heavily concentrated in the richer areas while poorer districts struggle beneath them. Heroes are celebrated in some places, feared in others, and villains can be found almost anywhere. At the center of Japan’s hero society are the Zodiacs, a team of twelve superheroes considered the country’s primary protectors. They operate under the authority of the Japanese government and are managed by H.O.T. — Heroes Of Tomorrow, the government division responsible for monitoring, recruiting, and regulating Japan’s heroes. H.O.T. also keeps track of major criminal organizations and determines which villains are considered Japan’s most wanted. Opposing the Zodiacs are the Seven Deadly Sins, a group of seven notorious supervillains. Each member is considered one of Japan’s most dangerous criminals, making the Sins the greatest threat to the country’s established hero system. Although smaller hero teams, villain groups, independent heroes, and criminals exist throughout Japan, few can compare to the influence of the Zodiacs and the Seven Deadly Sins. For generations, heroes and villains have fought across Japan. But 2099 marks the beginning of a new era. Older heroes are passing the torch, new recruits are being brought into H.O.T., and a new generation of villains is beginning to emerge. The people entering the battlefield now will shape what Japan becomes next. For the first time in generations, the future of Japan belongs to an entirely new generation of heroes and villains.
