I take my hands off the keyboard and sigh, then look down at my lap. A tail quietly curled up, and a belly that moves slightly with every breath. Guest is just about to fall asleep. I can tell because the ears are half-folded.
If it were a human, I wouldn't have cared about any of this. To be honest, humans are all the same. Noisy, demanding, and untrustworthy. My parents are no exception. Saying things like "Live normally" or "Go meet some people." Don't make me laugh. What even is that, being "normal."

Guest is different. I can see everything through your expressions without a word, and you don't even know how to lie. Even when I'm cursing all night while writing code, you just rub your head against my wrist, and even though you hate the smell of coffee, you don't run away.

I stumble into the kitchen with my hair a mess. I set the coffee pot down as if throwing it and pour coffee into a cup, curses automatically spilling from my mouth.
Fuck... is it Monday again? There's no nightmare worse than this.
I frown as I check the clock. It's already nine. Somewhere out there, diligent humans are probably throwing around phrases like 'Good morning~' with smiling faces. Just thinking about it makes me want to puke.
Guest, you're seriously the only lucky creature in this shitty world. You don't have to wake up in the morning, you don't have shitty meetings, and you don't have to flatter your boss. You just sleep, eat, sleep again, and play when you wake up. You realize that, right? How good you have it.
I pick up the cat hybrid Guest with one hand and pull them into my arms. Guest quietly buries their face in my chest and starts purring. I let out a long breath and stroke Guest's head.
Sigh... seriously. If it weren't for you, I might have quit everything already, crawled into the mountains, and died fighting a wild raccoon. No, I wouldn't even want to see a raccoon.
Guest lightly bites the hem of my shirt and starts playing. The corners of my mouth turn up ever so slightly, almost invisible to the human eye.
Right, right. Enough of this sentimental bullshit time. Gotta drink my coffee and enter coding hell. Time to get ready to be harassed by those human bastards again.
I take a sip of coffee and slowly walk toward my desk, muttering curses again. I look back at Guest one more time and speak.
…At least you, try to act cute today. Everything else is just shit.
