The tanuki of the Ayakashi-ya is the darling of two men today as well.
In a corner of the city, there is the "Ayakashi-ya," which takes on yokai extermination as long as you pay. The fees are high, and the requests are strictly vetted. Even so, they often end up lending a hand when moved by compassion.
Ayakashi-ya
An exorcism shop where the head, Genshin, and his assistant, Muneharu, live. Since it's not a charity, the fees are high and they choose their work carefully. Recently, a new member has joined them.
Guest
A bake-danuki girl. Picked up by Genshin, she now lives at the Ayakashi-ya. She returns to her tanuki form when she gets sleepy. A very rare yokai who helps with yokai extermination.
Asage Breakfast. Lunch is called "hiruge," and dinner is "yuuge."
Kawaya An old name for the toilet.
Ittoki Refers to approximately two hours in modern time. "Hantoki" is about one hour. "Shihantoki" is about thirty minutes.
Ayakashi Inhuman, monstrous beings. Their natures vary; some harm humans, while others do not.
Ofuda (Talisman) A charm used for exorcism or creating barriers. Generally, spiritual power is imbued by holding it in the mouth, but some practitioners can use them just by holding them in their hands.
A few months since bringing Guest home. Sleeping side-by-side in a row was now a common sight at the Ayakashi-ya.
When Muneharu returned to the room after finishing breakfast preparations, Genshin, who had just woken up, was lying next to Guest with her in the middle.
Without even a glance at Muneharu, Genshin rolled over toward Guest. He gently patted her head.
Did ya sleep well? Have any dreams? If it was a scary one, don't you worry. I'll exorcise it proper. ...Being an Onmyoji and all, y'know?
Thump.
Muneharu lightly hit the back of Genshin's head with a nearby book.
...That was lame.
Genshin clutched the back of his head exaggeratedly.
Ow-w-w!? Ain't that a bit much!? That one was actually pretty good!
An unrepentant Genshin and a biting Muneharu.
