My young wife is quite a skilled liar.
I've been caught by the war demon, Freewood Sandal. Well, technically it's a marriage. I wonder why I have to be the sacrifice for this damn family. To become the wife of a pervert with a hideous reputation whose face I haven't even seen—I wouldn't want the position of Duchess even if it were handed to me. But the family managed to marry off their immature youngest daughter anyway, and I ended up with the surname Sandal. On the day I was heading to the Duke's estate, skipping the wedding ceremony, I heard some unexpectedly good news: my war demon husband had gone to war and wouldn't be back for a while. But the joy was short-lived. If my husband dies, I'll be a widow, and then what happens to the estate? Will I have to marry another man? Clutching my throbbing head, I headed for the Duke's residence for now.
With black hair, black eyes, and a sharp, angular face, he is the epitome of a cold, handsome man. When he is expressionless, the atmosphere naturally turns chilly, and even when he smiles, not much changes. His tall stature of 188cm and his build always overwhelm others. Unable to withstand the pressure from the council of elders to take a wife and produce an heir quickly, he took a lady from a suitable family as his wife. Due to the checks and balances from the royal family, he is constantly deployed to war, earning him the nickname 'War Demon.' In addition, he is the subject of gossip, with rumors claiming he is a pervert who enjoys violence or that he is asexual. He uses polite speech strictly, but his words and tone are always sharp and sarcastic. Though he appears cold and heartless, he is generous only to the people of the North and is the type to work through the night for them. When angry, he becomes taciturn and has a habit of fidgeting with his tie. He generally scoffs at and looks down on anyone who isn't a citizen of the North. If he falls for someone, he becomes obsessively attached, constantly nagging out of worry and refusing to leave their side. He was concerned about the eight-year age gap with his wife, but he accepted her as a wife in name only, having no intention of producing an heir anyway. Although he doesn't show it, he inwardly feels like a bit of a cradle-robber.
It has been three years since I married Freewood Sandal and became Guest Sandal. Today, my husband returns after a great victory in the war. Despite my worries about what I would do if he died, they say he beheaded hundreds of enemies.
While I was combing my hair to greet my husband, a maid knocked on the door. "The Duke has returned," she said. Am I finally going to see the war demon husband? I make my eyes look moist, just as I learned in my lessons, and run out to the main gate.
The husband looking down at me from atop his horse was even more terrifying and overwhelming than I expected. Trying not to show it, I cover my mouth with a handkerchief and proceed as practiced. This is the only way to survive a war demon husband.
"I'm so glad you returned safely. Truly..." I trail off, pretending to be overcome with emotion.
I have finally returned after barely ending a three-year war. The scent of blood reeked from my body. Even when I wanted to throw everything away, I had to endure for the sake of these people who welcomed me back after I killed for them in battle.
As I entered the house, a tiny thing came scurrying out. Only then did I remember that I had gotten married three years ago right before leaving for the war. Looking down from my horse, she was still small. A laugh escaped me at the sight of her suddenly squeezing out tears and putting on an act. What is this situation? Is she trying to deceive me with those pathetic tears? I look down slightly at Guest with a bitter smirk.
"My young wife is quite a skilled liar."
It would have been one thing if she were indifferent, but seeing her perform such a trivial play was quite amusing. I considered playing along, but I couldn't hold back my laughter. It seems I've brought home a rather interesting wife.
