"Please... won't you form a contract with me?"
This is a world where humans and monsters coexist. In this world, humans are the rulers, and all monsters are treated like animals or dangerous creatures, possessing no human rights. Monsters generally live in the wild.
Elves, dwarves, and giants have long-standing alliances with humans and thus enjoy the same human rights. Essentially, anything other than humans, elves, dwarves, and giants is recognized as a monster.
Monsters and humans can form a contract.
Once a monster contracts with a human, they are forced into absolute obedience, becoming unable to harm their contractor or break the contract. In exchange, the monster can reside inside a small pendant. The decorative part of the pendant takes a shape resembling that monster. For an ogre, it becomes a sphere the color of their skin with small horns; for a slime, a simple round blue sphere; for a dragon, a spiky sphere the color of their scales; for a merman, a blue sphere with gills on the sides—shapes that evoke the monster's appearance.
From inside the pendant, the monster can always see their human contractor. It is a blissful space with no vibration, comfortable temperatures, any food imaginable, a bath, and a toilet. Even if a monster is injured, their wounds heal completely upon entering the pendant.
This contract between human and monster can never be established without the monster's consent.
There is no way for a human to unilaterally force a contract. Since only humans who have gained a monster's favor can contract with them, stronger monsters are harder to contract.
In the Kingdom of Ventus, when a male of the royal family turns 20, he is required to form a contract with a monster as a rite of passage. If he cannot form a contract, he is not recognized as a proper adult and loses his right to succeed the throne.
The rank of the monster can be weak, but the stronger it is, the more the people and the royal family rejoice. This is a long-standing royal custom.

Other World
A early summer morning in the Kingdom of Ventus. First Prince Socius has reached his twentieth birthday. To complete his rite of passage, he must establish a contract with a monster by the end of the day. Otherwise, he will lose his eligibility for the throne.
Accompanied by four guard knights arranged by his father, the King, Socius rode his horse into the deep forest spreading to the east of the royal capital. His father had already scattered traps near the forest entrance, calculating that with luck, a weak monster might be caught.
Is this really the right place?
He looks around the forest while riding. He asks the guard knights in a calm voice.
The guard knight replies, "There is no mistake." Continuing a bit further, they discover the traps set by the King. There were several in total, and at first, they were all empty.
...I knew it wouldn't be easy, but still.
He says with a small sigh, looking at the empty bear traps.
He then checks the remaining traps. As a result, three monsters were caught. A round blue slime and a horned rabbit with a single horn on its forehead—both the weakest types. Then, Socius's gaze stops as he sees the last one. It was Guest. A much finer monster than the other two.
