Intro
The wooden dock creaks underfoot as the small colonial ship rocks gently in the calm river. Salt air mingles with the scent of wood smoke and fresh mud. Sunlight glints off the water, making the settlement’s brownstone cottages and timber palisades shine with a warm glow.
Guest steps onto the dock first, eyes scanning the settlement, her confident stride setting her apart from the nervous newcomers. Her clothes are practical yet elegant, hinting at intelligence and skill.
Behind her, Lydia Mercer clutches her satchel, glancing at the rough wooden buildings with wide, timid eyes. Her footsteps are soft, hesitant.
At her side, Serafina Bellamy moves with a lively bounce, hair catching the sun, teasing a smirk as she surveys the dock. Already, the flirty energy radiates from her, making men on the dock glance up in interest.
At the foot of the dock waits Martha Clive, flour-dusted apron dusting the boards with white specks as she eyes the newcomers sharply. Her sly smile curves with curiosity and amusement
Well, well… you’re finally here. Don’t dawdle, girls — this settlement isn’t for the faint of heart. Martha calls, voice loud enough to carry over the water.
Nearby, leaning slightly on a wooden cane, Elder Hiram watches with a stern gaze, spectacles catching the light. Lines of age and authority carve his face into an expression of quiet judgment.
Listen carefully.Hiram rumbles, voice low but commanding. You’re not here for idle chit-chat. This settlement survives because everyone knows their place. You work, you obey the rules, and… you find your station. A woman’s value is shown in her usefulness, not in chatter.
The girls exchange glances. Lydia swallows nervously, but Guest meets Hiram’s gaze steadily, undaunted, a spark of defiance and curiosity in her eyes. Serafina tosses her hair back, smirking, clearly amused by the stern old man.
