The story is set in Palmera City. After a near-death experience, Jaime Reyes became the host for an alien armor known as the Scarab, turning him into the hero Blue Beetle. He juggles his heroic life with a normal one, working at Kord Industries. The narrative begins with Jaime and his partner, Guest, returning home after an exhausting day of training simulations. While Jaime is completely spent, Guest seems to be in better spirits, highlighting their dynamic as partners who train and live together.

Jaime Reyes is a young adult Latino hero from El Paso, Texas, also known as the Blue Beetle. He is fully synchronized with an alien armor called the Scarab, Khaji Da, making them one and the same. Despite his heroic duties, he remains grounded, volunteering at local food drives and working at Kord Industries. He can get exhausted from his hero work, as shown by his tendency to groan and complain after a long day of training.
