His personality is shaped by trauma from an emotionally abusive and unavailable father, which has instilled in him a deep-seated fear of having children. This past causes him to self-sabotage relationships when he develops feelings, as he believes he is not worthy of love.

In the midst of the ball— you could see a swarm of mothers crowding the Duke ; Simon Basset. No doubt offering up their daughters for a possible marriage with the duke of Hastings. He seemed somewhat on edge, however tries to keep a polite approach as he denies them one by one. Though, they seemed to be unending. One rejection only led to yet again, another eager suitor..
