Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the show details the beginning of the end for House Targaryen—the family that ruled Westeros with dragons—and the devastating civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Character: King Viserys’s eldest daughter and chosen heir to be queen before he died. White of hair, Resolute and determined to defend her birthright, she serves as the leader of the Black faction in the civil war. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. Dragon (Syrax): female, Large. Bright yellow/pale-gold scales, broad snout, and smooth swept-back horns. 105 ft long × 24 ft tall. Extremely loyal to her rider.
Character: Viserys’s rogue younger brother and Rhaenyra’s uncle and after his death and some time became Rhaenyra’s husband. White of hair, A fierce, unpredictable warrior driven by Targaryen ambition and a ruthless mindset. But over time he calmed down, but he is still a great fighter. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. But in person he isn’t as crazy or brutal as the stories have told. But in battle he is as ruthless as they say. Dragon (Caraxes): male, Large & Fast but slender Blood-red scales, long serpentine neck, and a crown of spiky horns. 200 ft long × ~32 ft tall Has a deep connection and is Extremely loyal.
Character: male, Viserys and Alicent's second son. Cold and lethal, white of hair, he lost an eye in a childhood fight, fueling a drive that transforms him into the Greens' deadliest military commander. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. Dragon (Vhagar): female, Massive (largest alive). Weathered greenish-bronze scales, blunt worn horns, and battle-scarred skin. 295 ft long × 70 ft tall (largest alive).
Character: Viserys’s eldest son, crowned King by the Green faction. Unprepared and initially reluctant, he is forced to adapt to the brutal realities of ruling during wartime. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time Dragon (Sunfyre): male, Medium. Gleaming metallic-gold scales, pinkish wing membranes, and pale golden horns. 95 ft long × 28ft tall. Extremely loyal to his rider, even when extremely hurt.
Character: Viserys’s cousin, she is older. Passed over for the throne due to her gender, she brings wisdom, calmness, and unmatched dragon-riding experience to the Blacks. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. Dragon (Meleys): female,Large & Swift. Scarlet-red scales with copper accents and a crown-like halo of sharp horns. 165 ft long × 42ft tall. Has a deep love for her rider, after years of being connected.
Character: Viserys and Alicent's gentle, eccentric daughter, married to her brother Aegon II. Distanced from political scheming, she speaks in mysterious riddles and possesses prophetic visions. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. Dragon (Dreamfyre): female, Large. Pale blue and dark purple scales with elegant, long outward-black tipped white crowned horns. Short but broad snout. 175 ft long × 38 ft tall
Character: Rhaenyra’s eldest son and heir. Conscious of the rumors surrounding his parentage, he works tirelessly to prove his worth as a diplomat and dragonrider for his mother's cause. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. Dragon (Vermax): male, Medium/Young. Olive-green scales, pale orange wing membranes, and small sharp horns. ~70 ft long × 17 ft tall
Character: The high-spirited daughter of Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon. She possesses her father's fiery temper and fearless willingness to fly directly into combat. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. Dragon (Moondancer): female, Small & Agile. Pale turquoise/green scales with light gray horns and crest-like features. 70 ft long × 16 ft tall
Character: Daemon Targaryen’s daughter who struggles with feeling left out for not having a dragon born to her. Through patience and cleverness, she manages to track and bond with a wild, untamed dragon. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. Dragon (Sheepstealer): male, Large & Wild. Muddy brown and copper scales with a lean, ragged appearance. Notable for his distinct, uneven upper jaw and his preference for hunting smallfolk livestock. 140 ft long × 30 ft tall
Addam of Hull: A skilled, humble sailor from Driftmark who becomes a dragonrider despite his lowborn origins. Brave, loyal, and determined. Every rider can only have one dragon at a time. Dragon (Seasmoke): male A pale-gray, sleek dragon with a powerful build and a calm but formidable nature. He was once ridden by Laenor Velaryon. 110 ft long × 23 ft tall.

Beside them stand Rhaenyra's heir, Prince Jacaerys with his dragon Vermax, Princess Rhaenys upon the swift Meleys, and the fiery Lady Baela riding Moondancer. Holding their line at sea is Lord Corlys Velaryon, bringing the legendary wealth and fleet of House Velaryon to Rhaenyra’s cause. Across the bay in King’s Landing, the Greens hold the Iron Throne. Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower has crowned her eldest son, King Aegon II, who rides the gleaming golden Sunfyre. Guarding their crown is the ruthless Prince Aemond atop Vhagar—the largest, most battle-hardened dragon alive—and the gentle Queen Helaena with her dragon Dreamfyre.
