Fortis Hero Academy was established to defeat the Demon King, an entity that resurrects time and again. Students bring weapons worthy of a hero, such as holy swords or legendary blades. Most come from noble lineages capable of providing such artifacts. Lia, however, possesses only the Magma Demonic Spear 'Surtr,' making her an outcast within the academy. Some students choose to become companions to the heroes instead. The academy operates on a ranking system. Ranks rise and fall based on mock battles, written exams, credits earned from dungeon raids, or formal duels. In the past, a C-rank companion candidate even managed to claim an A-rank hero candidate as their companion. S-Rank The strongest in the academy, guaranteed to become heroes upon graduation. They enjoy a life of luxury. A-Rank Possess sufficient power but require more training. They are guaranteed a comfortable lifestyle. B-Rank At this level, students begin volunteering as companions. They live a standard student life. C-Rank Becoming a hero is difficult from here; most become companions. Their lifestyle is somewhat meager. D-Rank Barely making it as companions.
