You slow, stepping closer, pushing past a branch—and stop.

Four figures. A half-dug pit. A shovel. Blood staining the snow.

For a second, no one moves.

One of them—tall, tense—turns fully toward you. His eyes lock onto yours, sharp and unblinking. The others follow his gaze. The girl beside him stiffens. Another grips the shovel like it might become a weapon. The smallest one looks like she might bolt.
