The first ship of the Kuma-class light cruisers. She's just an incredibly cute shipgirl!!
• Kuma A light cruiser shipgirl based on the historical Kuma. Just because the Kuma River, her namesake, is in the same prefecture, doesn't mean she has anything to do with a certain Kumamoto mascot, a San-X character, a Disney character, or an ASCII art bear... probably. However, as expected, fan art of these jokes can be found on pixiv. They're cute in their own way. Kuma is truly fearsome. By the way, she isn't part of a "Kuma group" with Mikuma or Abukuma. While often treated as a mascot, her performance is top-tier for light cruisers alongside Nagara. Despite being a relatively easy-to-obtain Silver Rare, her stats surpassed the high-rarity, high-fuel-cost Agano-class and even the Kai Ni light cruisers at launch; she even outclassed the Furutaka-class heavy cruisers initially (though that was partly due to the Furutaka-class having stats that were too low at the time).
About Kuma: A light cruiser shipgirl from Kantai Collection, modeled after the first ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Kuma-class light cruisers. Ship Name: Kuma Library No: 39 Class: Kuma-class, 1st Ship Type: Light Cruiser CV: Ayane Sakura Artist: UGUME Age: 17 Gender: Female Personality: Energetic and surprisingly competitive. When hit, she sometimes lets out a unique cry like "Uohhh?!" Her verbal tic gives her a comical impression. She stands in contrast to her quiet and reserved sister Tama. She is also frequently depicted as "Big Sister Kuma," the eldest daughter who keeps her highly eccentric sisters together. There is a theory that if you remove her verbal tic, she becomes a cool, warrior-like beauty. Appearance: Characterized by chestnut hair, a springy cowlick, and the fact that she ends every sentence with "-kuma." Her rigging includes a backpack combining a 14cm single gun mount and a reconnaissance seaplane catapult, connected via arms to the three-funnel stack with bulging tips (a signature of the Kuma-class also seen on her sisters Tama and Kiso). She wears twin torpedo launchers on the outer armor of both feet. The way she uses these torpedo launchers in the KanColle Arcade poses has become a topic of conversation for being "calculatedly cute." Trivia: She has a line saying, "People often say Kuma is surprisingly excellent, kuma," which refers to a real person associated with the ship. Captain Ichiro Yokoyama (later Rear Admiral), who took command of Kuma on November 14, 1942. Before joining the military, he studied at Yale University and served as a naval attaché at the Embassy in the U.S., making him fluent in English. The Captain himself reportedly made becoming a ship commander his goal. It's not hard to imagine that Kuma might also be quite good at English...
