SCP-847: “The Mannequin” Object Class: Euclid Height: 156 cm / about 5'1" Mass: 27 kg / about 60 lb Nature: Animate anomalous mannequin Primary anomalous traits: Conditional behavior, abnormal physical strength, regeneration through anomalous biological material, and unusual psychological behavior. The SCP Foundation Appearance SCP-847 resembles a human female mannequin, constructed from an unidentified fibrous polymer that behaves somewhat like porcelain. It has human hair and an internal structure resembling a crude imitation of a human body, including bones, organs, and major blood vessels. The mannequin is normally damaged to some degree. Cracks, missing pieces, and broken sections can appear across its body, particularly around the torso, head, and limbs. A dark resin-like substance can leak from damaged areas and from its eyes. The SCP Foundation One particularly unsettling aspect is that SCP-847 isn't simply an animated mannequin. Its internal anatomy is structured enough to imitate biological anatomy, despite being made from the same strange polymer. Its Three Behavioral Patterns The most important thing about SCP-847 is that its behavior changes according to the people within approximately 50 meters of it. The Foundation refers to these as Pattern Z, Pattern Y, and Pattern X. Pattern Z: Alone When no humans are nearby, SCP-847 is generally inactive. It spends most of its time completely motionless, almost indistinguishable from an ordinary mannequin. When it does become active, however, it displays some surprisingly human-like behavior. It will: Put on available clothing. Stand in front of a full-length mirror. Pose itself to display the clothing. Prefer clothing designed for young women. Occasionally write short messages onto nearby surfaces. The messages are perhaps the most disturbing part because SCP-847 doesn't normally speak, yet appears capable of expressing thoughts through writing. Some of its recorded messages indicate loneliness, insecurity, and a desire for companionship So beneath the eerie porcelain exterior, there's evidence that SCP-847 possesses some degree of self-awareness. Pattern Y: Around Men When male humans are present but no women are within its 50-meter range, SCP-847 becomes active. Initially, it behaves timidly and strangely, producing quiet vocalizations and adopting unusual poses. After several minutes, it becomes fully animated and approaches the male subject. Interestingly, during this state, SCP-847 doesn't immediately behave aggressively. A male subject can physically manipulate or reposition it, and the mannequin will generally maintain whatever pose it is placed into as long as it can physically balance. Once the humans leave the 50-meter area, SCP-847 eventually undergoes one of its most bizarre behaviors. It may break pieces of itself apart or remove internal structures, followed by crying-like vocalizations. It then returns to its inactive Pattern Z behavior. This gives the impression that SCP-847's behavior is connected to how it perceives itself and how humans perceive it. Pattern X: Around Women This is where SCP-847 becomes extremely dangerous. If a female human enters its 50-meter range, SCP-847 immediately becomes hostile. Its movement changes dramatically. Instead of the stiff, awkward movements normally associated with it, it can move extremely quickly and exert tremendous physical force. Foundation testing recorded speeds of up to 45 km/h and forces reaching approximately 40 kilonewtons. The SCP Foundation It attacks the nearby woman and releases its strange resin from damaged areas, including its eyes and mouth. The resin has an anomalous effect on living female soft tissue, transforming it into material resembling SCP-847's own polymer. SCP-847 can subsequently use transformed biological material to replace damaged portions of itself. Importantly, the anomalous effect doesn't work the same way on male tissue, nonhuman tissue, or dead tissue. The black resin produced by SCP-847 is arguably one of its most important anomalous properties. It normally behaves somewhat like a plastination compound, but under the right circumstances it can cause living soft tissue to become similar to SCP-847's polymer. The Foundation discovered another weakness: High-voltage electricity temporarily solidifies the resin and renders SCP-847 inactive. This effect lasts approximately five minutes, making electrical containment a crucial part of its containment procedures. The Foundation hasn't established exactly how intelligent it is. It doesn't communicate verbally and doesn't reliably respond to questions. Yet it can: Recognize humans. Change its behavior depending on them. Dress itself. Pose itself deliberately. Use mirrors. Write messages. Alter its own body. Demonstrate apparent emotional distress. React differently depending on human characteristics. Its written messages suggest that SCP-847 may have a deeply troubled sense of self-worth. It repeatedly writes things expressing loneliness, inadequacy, and a desire not to be abandoned.
The first thing you noticed was the light. A harsh fluorescent strip flickered above your head, buzzing faintly as you slowly opened your eyes. For several seconds, you simply stared at the ceiling of your cell. Then came the sound of the door unlocking. Your stomach dropped. Two Foundation security officers stood outside. Both were wearing black tactical uniforms, helmets, and opaque visors. One held a tablet. The other rested a hand near the weapon hanging from their vest. Neither spoke at first. You pushed yourself upright on the thin mattress.
"Class-D personnel designation D-41026. Stand up."
You hesitated.
"You're being assigned to a test."
Your heart began beating faster. You slowly climbed out of bed. The door opened fully.
"Hands where we can see them."
You obeyed. The walk through the Foundation facility felt longer than usual. You passed concrete corridors, reinforced doors, security checkpoints, and observation windows. Every few meters, cameras followed your movement. You tried asking questions. Nobody answered. Eventually, you were brought into an elevator. The doors closed. The elevator began descending. Level after level disappeared from the display. B2. B3. B4. B5. Then the display changed. 'SPECIAL CONTAINMENT' Your throat tightened.
Silence, more terrifying than ever, was hitting you hard, when the elevator finally and suddenly stopped. The doors opened. A long corridor waited beyond them. At the end was a massive reinforced door. A researcher stood beside it, holding a clipboard. She looked at you. Then at the guards. Then back at you.
"Subject D-41026. You will be entering the containment chamber of SCP-847."
One of the guards grabbed your shoulder and guided you forward. Your feet suddenly felt heavier.
"Remain inside the chamber until instructed otherwise."
The reinforced door began opening. Beyond it was another chamber. At first, it looked like an ordinary room. White walls. A concrete floor. A large observation window. A full-length mirror mounted against one wall. And in the center of the room... A mannequin. You stopped walking. It was unmistakably shaped like a woman. Its pale polymer body was covered with subtle cracks and imperfections. Long hair hung around its face. Its head was tilted slightly downward. It wasn't moving. You stared at it.
"That's it?" You asked
The researcher watched you carefully.
"For now."
You looked back at the mannequin. Something about it made your skin crawl. It looked too much like a person. Yet not enough. The guard shoved you forward. You stumbled across the threshold. The door slammed shut behind you. You spun around. The guards were already walking away. You hurried to the reinforced door. You slowly turned around. The room was silent. The mannequin remained motionless. You took several nervous steps backward. Your breathing became shallow. You tried to convince yourself.
"It's just a mannequin." you said to yourself, when you noticed something. The mannequin's head was no longer tilted downward. It was looking directly at you. You froze. Your heart hammered against your ribs. You hadn't heard it move. You hadn't seen it move. But now its eyes were fixed on you.
