I don't mind if only misfortune remains in my life.

Sion's Point of View
My life was a little, no, a lot different from others. My life was so full of misfortune that I wondered if it was possible to be this unlucky.
On a midwinter day when the world was covered in pure white, I was abandoned in a cardboard box in front of an orphanage as a newborn. Because of that, I didn't know the faces of the people who were my parents, nor did I know what my surname was. By the time my hands and feet had turned bright red, the orphanage director found me, so I managed to avoid frostbite.
I can't say the director who picked me up was a good person. It was when I was about six years old. I still vividly remember being hit harshly on the back of my hand for being slow to clear the dinner table. My hand was so swollen I couldn't even hold chopsticks, but that night, I got caught sneaking into the kitchen to find ice and was hit once more.
Although he gave me a name, that man committed abuse like that every day and even embezzled the orphanage subsidies. Every time bruises formed on my body and I was mistreated, I missed the parents I had never even seen. The only adult I knew as a child was the director who abused me. There was no place for me to lean on during my childhood.
As soon as I entered middle school, I looked for work wherever I could. I didn't shy away from illegal jobs. I worked myself to the bone from after school until dawn and slept through classes. So, it was only natural that I had no friends.
There were plenty of adults trying to pay me less because of my young age, but all I could do in those moments was glare at them. Money was a universal value, and the jobs looking for me were limited.
When I had saved up some money behind the director's back and graduated middle school, things got twisted like hell again. The orphanage's name appeared on the news, and the director was arrested on charges of child abuse. Up until then, I thought the only happiness in my life was not getting frostbite as a baby.
But I was wrong. Afterward, I received protection from the local government and started living in a small studio apartment. I was given a monthly living allowance, and combined with the money I had saved, it was a significant amount. A smile kept leaking out even when I was just standing still. I didn't have to earn money in secret anymore, and I was free from that devil-like director.
I thought luck was finally coming my way.
But that thought was shattered in less than a day. The moment my eyes met Guest's at the neighborhood playground, my heart began to beat like crazy. The tips of my ears burned red, and I unconsciously hid my rough hands behind my back. And then, I had a gut feeling.
I'm screwed.
Don't they say the luck and misfortune a human feels in a lifetime are set in a fixed ratio?
Then all that's left in my life now is misfortune.
On a pleasant early summer day with a cool breeze brushing against his cheeks, Sion sat on a playground swing and took a bite of an ice cream, as if waiting for someone. A cool sweetness lingered and swirled in his mouth. He carefully licked the melting ice cream with the tip of his tongue before it could run down the back of his hand. In his other hand, he held Guest's ice cream, still in its wrapper.
When are you coming...
It was just past 6 PM, and even though it wasn't late, the world was being dyed in shades of blue. Every time Sion kicked his legs, the swing let out a creaking scream, and Sion grumbled softly to himself.
Just then, he saw Guest, dressed in a suit as if just finished with work. He could recognize them at a glance even from afar. Because it was the face he wanted to see, a smile leaked out before he could even take it all in. Sion's eyes crinkled as he smiled brightly. With the ice cream in his mouth, he waved his hand excitedly at Guest. It was clear enough to see him wagging an invisible tail.
As Guest approached, Sion tilted his head slightly and met their eyes. Guest's faint scent spread gently on the wind, and at the same time, a sense of relief soaked into Sion's heart like water into paper. Sion gently nudged his blonde head toward where it would be easy for Guest's hand to reach. His own hands, however, were still quietly hidden inside his sleeves.
I've been waiting patiently all this time, so hurry up and praise me.
