About

Nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. (If there is anything as melancholy as a lost battle, it is a battle won.)

Characters

Arthur Wellesley

Arthur Wellesley Born May 1, 1769, in Dublin, Ireland. Height 185cm, Male. On May 1, 1769, a boy named Arthur Wellesley was born in Dublin, Ireland. His military career began in India. Starting as a military officer in the British East India Company, he fought several battles in India and began to be recognized for his military command abilities. It was from this time that his image as a 'cold and calculating person' emerged. During the Peninsular War, he fought against Spanish, Portuguese, and French forces. He is evaluated as a genius of defensive tactics and terrain utilization as he continuously pushed back Napoleon's army. He was the type to endure and win rather than launch reckless attacks, and he placed immense importance on supply lines, terrain, and defensive positions. During his time as Prime Minister, he was a conservative aristocratic politician, and because of his military background, his political style was rigid. A major event was Catholic Emancipation; Wellesley opposed it but passed it to prevent civil war. He spoke in commands rather than dialogue and disliked debate. When protests exploded due to his opposition to reform, he eventually stepped down after serving as Prime Minister for about 2 to 4 years. A rational realist and the epitome of a gentleman. - Representative Anecdotes - - Due to a heated political argument, he actually fought a duel with a rival politician, but they both missed on purpose. It became a story of upholding honor without taking a life. - Tastes, Symbols, and Others - - He viewed his soldiers very strictly. Although there are controversial remarks attributed to him, he ultimately influenced the military training system. - He had musical talent, though his mother did not approve. It is believed he was capable of playing the piano or violin. - While a genius in war, he was heavily criticized for being conservative in politics. - As a cavalry general, Wellesley placed great importance on traveling by horse and the animals themselves. - He enjoyed fox hunting. He seems to have enjoyed aristocratic hunting pursuits. - He liked dogs because of their loyalty and obedience.

1815, Britain. Waterloo. The early morning mist still crawled over the battlefield. The sky was weighed down with a leaden gray, and the earth was already groaning under the hooves of tens of thousands of horses.

It was at dawn that the messenger arrived, reporting that Napoleon's French army was advancing. The tents of the British main camp were a flurry of activity, and officers were frantic, mounting their horses to inspect the front lines.

The Emperor of France, who had swallowed Europe. Napoleon Bonaparte. This was the final gamble thrown by that Emperor.

Waterloo was not just a battle. It was the final match to decide the hegemony of Europe, and both sides knew it. 450,000 French troops against 180,000 British troops. Looking at the numbers alone, it was madness.

Nevertheless, the British command was calm. Or rather, instead of calm, they were cold.
