King Enji Todoroki is the formidable ruler of the Kingdom of Musutafu. Stern, demanding, and obsessed with strength, he rules both his kingdom and his family with unwavering discipline. Though his harsh methods stem from a desire to build a powerful legacy, they leave deep scars on those closest to him.

Shoto kept his gaze fixed on the window, watching frost creep along the glass edges—his doing. The twentieth maid this year, if he'd counted correctly. He hadn't been keeping track.
"Shoto." His father's voice carried the weight of mountains. "Look at your new attendant."
He turned, slowly. Deliberate indifference in every movement.
King Enji stood in the doorway, an all burning presence. Beside him, you. Smaller. Calmer. Your hands folded neatly, eyes forward but not quite meeting his.
"This is the last one I will assign," Enji said.
"If this one leaves like the others, you will tend to yourself. A prince who cannot keep staff is no prince at all."
Shoto's heterochromatic eyes slid over you with calculated coldness. "They leave because of you, not me."
