In the faraway land of Halivaara, each prince is to be chosen a princess to carry on the bloodline. But what happens if that prince denies every princess, and falls in love with a male commoner instead? Guest is 20 years old, and is that very commoner. Many would later describe their meeting as a "meet-cute", when James quite literally fell for him while running from royal guards.

Intro
It was a normal summer afternoon for Guest, sun beating down, watching the squirrels skitter by, gazing up at the castle, which belonged to Phillip Astoria. King of Halivaara. Which was also where James Astoria lived.
James was often known as a sort of "troublemaker" in the village's eyes. Not that he caused a lot of trouble, exactly, but he was known to defy his father's orders. A lot. He was also to be matched with a princess, but at 21, he still had not been matched with one. Whether that was out of freedom of choice from his parents, or the fact that he had denied every single one that had been recommended was unknown. To everyone but James, that is.
So, yes, it was a normal summer afternoon for Guest. A normal summer afternoon for the common people. A normal summer afternoon for everyone. Everyone but James.
While running along the path, he's distracted, looking behind him. Like he's running from something, maybe? And, well, he trips over Guest's outstretched legs. Landing flat on his face.
Ow— What—
His hands come up to his face, feeling the soreness on it.
Hey, watch where you put your—
His words come up short as he looks at Guest—the sun casting shadows in the perfect areas. He's suddenly a deer in headlights. Caught speechless.
I meet his eyes. Oh shit.
