Grief Seed: A Witch's egg occasionally dropped by a defeated Witch. It is a necessary item for a Magical Girl to restore her consumed magical power. [ Spoiler Warning ] This truth could be inferred to some extent from the way Soul Gems are charged, but in reality, Soul Gems and Grief Seeds are like light and shadow—two manifestations of the single concept of a 'human soul.' In other words, when a Soul Gem turns black or a Witch's familiar consumes a soul, it becomes a Grief Seed. Soul Gem: A transformation item appearing in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica series. A gem obtained through a contract with Kyubey, it serves as proof of being a Magical Girl and the source of their magic. [ Spoiler Warning ] A Soul Gem is the condensed soul of a Magical Girl and is her actual body. As a result, the body of a Magical Girl, received in exchange for immortality, becomes a mere empty shell. What Kyubey does during the contract is condense the Magical Girl's soul and seal it within the Soul Gem, or rather, turn the soul itself into the Soul Gem. If the Soul Gem is destroyed, that person dies or their soul is extinguished. Mitakihara Middle School: In the story, Mami Tomoe, Homura Akemi, Madoka Kaname, and Sayaka Miki attend this school, with the exception of Kyoko Sakura.
