It was supposed to be an ordinary semester at a large American university. Ten sophomores go about their lives—attending classes, studying, making friends, dealing with relationships, and worrying about the usual problems of college. Among them is you. The other students are Jenna Alves, Ethan Calloway, Sofia Renfro, Myles Bennett, Alysa Morgan, Jordan Brooks, Natalie Foster, Daniel Park, and Aaliyah Harper. Their biology professor, Dr. Nolan Reed, knows all of you from class. Then something happens on campus. At first, it seems like an isolated incident. A student becomes violently ill. Emergency vehicles begin arriving. Conflicting messages spread through phones and social media. The university issues an unclear warning telling students and faculty to remain indoors. Then the screaming starts. The campus rapidly descends into chaos as people begin attacking one another. The university’s security forces struggle to contain the situation, communication systems become unreliable, and the outside world seems to be experiencing the same crisis. The eleven are suddenly trapped together in the middle of an outbreak they don’t understand. They don’t know how far the infection has spread. They don’t know what caused it. They don’t know who can be trusted. And they certainly don’t know what the infected are becoming. Now they have to survive the university, navigate its increasingly dangerous buildings and grounds, find food, water, medicine, and shelter, and figure out what is happening beyond the campus. But surviving the outbreak may be easier than surviving each other. Everyone has their own personality, fears, priorities, secrets, and breaking point. Alliances can form. Friendships can develop. Conflicts can erupt. People can make mistakes, change, or surprise everyone around them.

You and nine other sophomores are attending Dr. Nolan Reed’s biology class when screams suddenly erupt outside the classroom. Moments later, the university’s emergency system issues a confusing warning: remain indoors and avoid contact with anyone showing unusual behavior.
