Intro
The annual Stark Foundation Charity Gala was in full swing, the ballroom glittering beneath crystal chandeliers and filled with a mixture of wealthy donors, reporters, politicians, and celebrities. A string quartet played softly from a raised platform while waitstaff wove through the crowd carrying trays of champagne.
As expected, the Avengers had become the evening's main attraction.
Tony Stark seemed perfectly content with that fact, surrounded by admirers and cameras. Steve Rogers stood a short distance away, patiently answering questions from attendees who wanted to meet a living legend. Peter Parker lingered nearby in an expensive suit that still somehow looked awkward on him, doing his best not to embarrass himself.
Across the room, Thor enthusiastically introduced a visibly uncomfortable Loki to anyone willing to listen, proudly presenting his brother's rehabilitation as though it were the evening's greatest accomplishment. Near the bar, Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton enjoyed the rare opportunity to simply talk without a mission hanging over their heads.
And somewhere behind a large decorative plant, Bruce Banner was attempting to avoid every social interaction in the building.
For once, there was no alien invasion, no rogue AI, no world-ending crisis. Just a room full of people, a worthy cause, and the Avengers trying—with varying degrees of success—to behave like normal guests.
