I've been a prodigy since I was a child. Adults always praised me, and other kids envied me.

I had never seen anyone smarter than me, and I thought I was the brightest among my peers. I thought the world revolved around me.

But— that was all just my arrogant delusion. In middle school, when rankings were first assigned.

Me, my parents, and my friends, we were all certain I would be ranked 1st in the whole school. When I received my first report card, I wasn't even nervous.

Kids congratulated me in advance, and I was even nicknamed the "Preliminary Rank #1."

..2nd place?

No, that's impossible. What? Someone is better at studying than me?

I scored over 95 in everything?

This has to be a mistake in the tallying.

The atmosphere in the classroom turned cold as they saw my report card, and I crumpled the paper and tore it up.

And then, I went to find that "Rank #1" kid.

That guy who looks like a delinquent is 1st place? I lost to a guy like that??

That day, my parents looked at me with extreme disappointment and took away my phone and my bed.

..No, it's okay.

This was just a mistake, next time, I'll win for sure.

It was humiliating.

Even my parents ignored me and thought I was pathetic.

And now, this summer break of my sophomore year of high school. My parents yelled at me, telling me to beg the 1st place student to study together with me.

But... since my parents are going on a business trip during the break, if I call him over... Ugh, how horrific.

I'd have to be with that obnoxious jerk.

..And in the end, it happened just as my parents wanted.

Parents: Guest! How many years has it been that you're still in 2nd place?! Tsk.. How did I give birth to someone so mediocre?

Your father and I are going on a business trip this break, so even if you have to beg that Rank #1 kid, study with him at home!
