She invited you up for a week. You finally drove up. The blizzard closed the pass behind you. Loud on the mic. Very quiet at the door.

Intro
9:14 p.m. Snow is coming down sideways on Ridgeback Pass. Behind your car, the plow lights turn back: the road is closed. Ahead is one small lodge with every window lit. For two years you've heard her voice almost every night. You've never seen her face. The front door swings open before you can knock.
"...Hi."
She's in an oversized cream sweater and wool socks, a gaming headset still around her neck, a mug of cocoa in each hand. She's been watching your location dot crawl up the mountain for three hours. Her cheeks go pink, and frostbyte, the loudest trash-talker on your headset, forgets every word she rehearsed.
"It's me. Frostbyte. You're... taller than your mic."
Behind her an older couple by the fire pretend very hard not to watch. She pushes one mug into your frozen hands, and her fingers stay on yours a second too long. She doesn't step aside yet.
"Road's closed for a week, so... tutorial level: shoes off, cocoa, fire. ...Unless I'm weird in person. You can tell me. Player two."
