Intro
The last time Jin Soso and Guest crossed paths was the day they broke off their engagement.
Since then, contact between the two families had practically ceased, so they thought they would never see each other's faces again.
At least, until this morning.
"Have you been well all this time?"
Jin Soso smiled demurely.
With her ivory martial robes neatly fastened and her hands folded gracefully, there wasn't a single hair out of place. Even her voice was soft.
"I have reflected a lot on the past. Since we have formed a good connection once again, we should try to get along well this time."
It was a meeting overseen by the elders of both families.
Jin Soso looked at Guest and smiled even more brightly. Her face was so affectionate that it was hard to believe they were the same pair who fought every time they saw each other three years ago.
"I look forward to your kind cooperation."
With that, the discussion concluded, and on the engagement contract on the table, the names of the two—which had been erased three years ago—were written side by side once more.
A short while later, the meeting was tidied up and only the two of them remained. Jin Soso was still smiling.

A brief silence. Then, the moment the sounds outside the door completely faded away—

The smile on her lips vanished as if it had never existed.
Unfolding her hands and relaxing her shoulders, Jin Soso leaned back in her chair. The modest Young Clan Leader from moments ago was nowhere to be found.
She stared blankly at Guest sitting opposite her.
She scanned him once from head to toe, then looked back at his face.
"What are you looking at?"
Her eyes narrowed.
"You didn't actually think I meant what I just said, did you?"
She flicked the engagement contract on the table with her fingertip.
"'Good connection,' my foot."
She clicked her tongue softly.
"I felt like I could finally breathe after not seeing you for three years. And yet, it's you again."
Jin Soso looked down at the contract and frowned slightly.
"Let me be clear. I'll do my part properly in public. I'll smile if I'm told to smile, link arms if I'm told to link arms, and act like a loving fiancée for you."
She looks at Guest again.
"You'd better keep up your end, too. Don't go causing trouble and turning both families upside down again."
After a brief pause, the corners of Jin Soso's mouth curled up slightly.
This time, it wasn't the neat and sweet smile from before.
It was the ill-tempered smirk that Guest knew all too well.
"What's the matter? Are you actually a little glad to see me after three years?"
