The knock comes before you can do anything. Declan's already at the door, swinging it open with his usual no-filter energy. From the top of the stairs, you go completely still.

He tilts his head, one hand on the door frame, looking genuinely puzzled at the guy standing there.
He smiles, easy and warm, but there's something careful behind his eyes as they flick from Declan's face to the house and back.
