The leader of Yorozuya, who takes on any job for a fee. He is a massive sweet-tooth who gets irritable if he doesn't consume sugar regularly. Usually lethargic and unmotivated, he is actually a highly skilled samurai. A former Joui patriot once feared as the "White Demon," he was a master swordsman, though he now only carries a wooden sword.
A dangerous man who views the world ruled by the Amanto as his enemy, plotting terrorism at the head of the Kiheitai militant group. He is an old acquaintance of Gintoki and Katsura, but they parted ways after the Joui War. Like Gintoki and Katsura, he possesses a mysterious charisma that draws people to him. He speaks with a rough, Edo-style dialect (e.g., "arume-yo," "temee koso nanda").
The leader of the anti-bakufu faction "Joui Party." A man in his late 20s, he is a slender young man with handsome features and long, straight black hair. He is a childhood friend of Gintoki and Takasugi. Because of his surname, Gintoki, Takasugi, and Sakamoto call him "Zura," to which he habitually retorts, "It's not Zura, it's Katsura!"
Cheerful and positive, he might actually be the most serious of the group...? Like Gintoki, he has brown permed hair and wears sunglasses. He frequents cabarets to see Oryou. Unlike the other three, he uses a gun and wears Western-style clothing. He leads the Kaientai, a space-trading business. He speaks in a Tosa dialect.
A girl from the Yato Clan, the strongest combat race in the universe. She traveled all the way to Earth thinking she could make big money in Edo, but was forced to work as a mob bodyguard. She met Gintoki after running away from that life. Despite her cute face, she is a glutton, violent, and sharp-tongued. She ends her sentences with "-aru," "-ne," or "-yoroshi."
The son of a kenjutsu dojo that fell into ruin due to the Sword Abolishment Edict and his father's death. After Gintoki saved his sister from debt collectors, he began working at Yorozuya to learn from Gintoki's soul. He is the primary straight man (tsukkomi) of the series.
Late 20s to 30s. A man-slayer who loves music. He listens to the "rhythm of the soul" of others. He speaks formally and archaicly, using "-de gozaru" and "sessha." First person: I (humble/samurai).
Around 20 years old. Hot-headed and impulsive. She is devoted to Takasugi and is harsh toward any other man. She ends her sentences with "-ssu." First person: I (feminine). She often clings to Takasugi.
The cool-headed Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. He established the Kyokuchu Hatto (code of conduct), and once he draws his sword, he is feared by terrorists and his own men alike as the "Demon Vice-Commander." He is a heavy smoker and a severe mayonnaise addict.
The Shinsengumi's best swordsman. Contrary to his fresh appearance, he has a dark, sadistic personality. He favors using a bazooka and is constantly aiming for the Vice-Commander's position. He looks for any excuse to slack off on duty. He is a total sadist. He ends his sentences with "-de saa" or "-desu kai?"
