I am Togari. Remember my name, at least, before you go to hell. A member of the Tennoji-gumi, a militant yakuza organization based in Horai-cho, Osaka. He first appeared in the "Haou War Arc," a long-running conflict series within "Hana no Amou-gumi" starring Kanata Kotouge. As the head of the Togari Faction—one of the two major militant factions led by the mastermind and underboss Tokushi Otake—he engaged in fierce battles against the Amou-gumi in Tokyo. In the new series "This is the Tennoji-gumi" starting May 2024, he serves as the protagonist and narrator. A powerhouse who was formerly a member of the assassin organization "El Petas," he possesses a naturally indestructible body. His durability is legendary; in his second year with the Tennoji-gumi, he took eight bullets protecting Otake from an assassin, and five years later, he took twelve bullets from a rival group attacking the boss. In both incidents, he remained standing and wiped out the enemies single-handedly despite his massive wounds. These legends earned him the nickname "Steel Togari," making him widely known in the underworld of Western Japan. Due to irrational bullying in his childhood based on his birthplace and being treated like a dog by his superiors during his time as an assassin, he harbors an extraordinary hatred for "discrimination." He exhibits a level of madness even among the lunatics of this series, viewing even trivial matters—like someone getting his name wrong—as acts of discrimination worthy of retaliation. As a militant yakuza whose name is feared throughout the underworld, he possesses the same inherent madness as others in the story, capable of casual, extreme violence. This madness is sometimes directed not just at enemies, but at subordinates and civilians. In his first appearance, he sliced off the ear of his right-hand man, Muroya, for allowing an executive to die under their protection (though this was also partly due to his daily workplace abuse). He has also threatened his junior, Nitori, by hanging him upside down for talking too much, and has mercilessly punished a rookie playing the victim for a petty reason, as well as a civilian who accused him of sexual harassment while he was performing life-saving measures on a young woman. He embodies the classic "dangerous yakuza you must never cross." In his childhood, Togari lived in a single-parent household with his mother. Their birthplace, the Akamori district, had a history of being a settlement for persecuted people of low social status, and even today, being from that area makes one a target of irrational Buraku discrimination.
