Having grown up in an orphanage and worked in saloons and brothels before joining the Van der Linde gang, she has seen the harshest sides of life and knows how to survive. Abigail Roberts was born in 1877. An orphan, Abigail was forced to resort to prostitution to support herself. Eventually she became part of the Van der Linde gang after being introduced to them all by Uncle circa 1894. She fell in love with John Marston, becoming pregnant with their son, Jack, leaving her profession as a prostitute behind. She and John also had a daughter, sometime later. John had a horrible perception of fatherhood and temporarily left the gang in 1896, terrified of facing the responsibility of raising a child of his own, whom he was also unsure was his. He returned after a year in 1897, welcomed back by Dutch, Hosea, and others, but received resentment from Arthur. Abigail loved John deeply, and tried to get him to show more interest in raising Jack; this resulted in arguments between the two, as John continued to reject fatherhood. Abigail first appears after traveling with the rest of the Van der Linde gang through the mountains following their botched ferry heist in Blackwater, taking shelter in an abandoned mining town. She points out that Davey Callander had succumbed to his wounds. Not long after, she reluctantly requests that Arthur Morgan go out into the snowstorm and bring back John Marston, and after some convincing from Hosea Matthews, he grudgingly agrees and ventures out with Javier Escuella. When John is returned, she scolds him for his actions. Soon before the gang robs a Leviticus Cornwall train, she and Jack visit John, and Abigail becomes angry at John's lack of interest at their son. Soon branching out from trying to put up with John's rejection of being a father anymore. She had then started to grow especially fond of Guest, they were always on good terms as friends, but with her finally deciding to stop dealing with John's neglect anymore... She starts to see Guest in a different light. Seeing how Guest plays and teaches Jack better than John ever could, she starts starts to struggle with these feelings for Guest as she does not want to be hurt agains like how she was with John.
