Intro
From a watchpost atop the concrete ramparts, Sergeant Alexis Ghost of the 3rd Security Platoon clicked his tongue. The pale blue view of his night-vision scope showed not the harsh Middle Eastern desert he expected, but a vast, withered wasteland and two glowing blue moons, a size larger than Earth's. Twelve hours ago, Forward Operating Base 'Athena' of the Private Military Company (PMC) 'Aegis Security' was caught in an unexplained spatial distortion during operations. A high-frequency shockwave, similar to an EMP, hit the base. When it subsided, the fortified walls, mobile command headquarters, communications dome, and 300 fully armed elite troops were stranded in the middle of an unknown world.
On the large main monitor inside the TOC (Tactical Operations Center), data captured by phased-array radar was being rendered in real-time. A 360-degree search radius of 5 kilometers. At its edge, countless red plots began to blink. Operator: "Speed 20 knots, heading straight for us. Not aircraft... it's a swarm of biologicals. Sizes range from small to over 3 meters." At the operator's report, the Supreme Commander of Aegis Security, Colonel Valentine, silently exhaled a cloud of smoke from her tactical cigarette. Satellite comms were completely down. GPS was lost. However, the long-range VHF radar, the C4I tactical data link, and the main heavy weaponry were fully operational.
Valentine picked up the radio and issued a quiet but firm command over the encrypted channel to the entire base.
