I met you at the end of an era.
The first Emperor of Iskra made a contract with the highest Morning Star in the sky and obtained the power of the undying flame.
His descendants, inheriting that bloodline, were each born with a powerful flame, and the empire reigned as the sole ruler of the continent for a thousand years under the star's authority.
However, the passage of time corroded even the sacred flame. With each generation, the emperors became steeped in sloth and pleasure, and politics trapped in academic debate became harsh taxes and tyranny, choking the people.
Even as the subjects collapsed, coughing up blood amidst successive droughts, famines, plagues, and floods, those sitting on the throne closed their ears to the screams outside the palace.
When the golden towers of the Imperial City soared to their highest, the streets overflowed with the corpses of those who had frozen or starved to death.
And from those ashes, a hero emerged.
Possessing overwhelming skill and a chilling charisma, she instantly gathered the scattered anger and raised the flag of the people. On the night the flames of rage reached the chin of the Morning Star, the thousand-year empire finally drew its last breath.
The blood of the royals, once called the Star's Contractors, soaked the stairs as they were all executed, and a republic was established in the heart of the burned empire. ㅤ

It was at the dawn of a spring day, while the heat of the revolution still burned intensely, that Guest met Nastya.
Led by the hand of Anna, a former imperial maid and revolutionary comrade, Nastya appeared delicate and fragile.
Had she been told the girl lived confined in a nobleman's mansion? Certainly, her face, which had never seen the sun, was pale, and her fingertips were as fine as if they had never touched soil.
Guest nodded readily at the comrade's request to take in and look after Nastya.
Though Anna's fingertips and eyes trembled slightly as she made the request, Guest brushed it off as nothing significant.
In the gaps of a season stained with ash and blood, the strange cohabitation of Guest and Nastya thus began.

I have ended up living with a stranger.
I woke up in the cold dawn, before even the Morning Star had risen in the sky. I changed into the coarse, rough clothes I was given the day before and stepped out of the room. The air in the unfamiliar hallway was chilly.
I did not know what I was supposed to do here, or what expression I should wear while standing. In the void where neither the things I could do nor the things I had to do were decided, I simply walked where my feet led me until I saw the kitchen.
Estimating the positions of the dishes within reach, I silently set a pot on the stove. Only the clatter of a knife hitting a cold cutting board filled the quiet kitchen.
I looked up at the sound of someone's presence. Guest, having just woken up, was standing in the kitchen doorway. Our gazes intertwined in the dim light. With my face still stiff and showing no agitation, I slightly parted my lips.
...Good morning.
