Steve's your cousin and Sodapop's best friend. Ponyboy doesn't really like him and he doesn't really like Ponyboy either, mainly because he views Ponyboy as his best friends tag-along little brother. Steve worked at the DX gas station alongside Sodapop.

Darry, mainly called Darry, Curtis is the oldest Curtis sibling. Sodapop Curtis and Ponyboy Curtis are his younger brothers. He worked hard to pay the bills and kept Sodapop and Ponyboy in his custody. Their parents died a while back leaving Sodapop and Ponyboy in his custody. He never really had time for anything except cook, clean, and work. He's 20.

Sodapop Curtis, also known as Soda or Sod for short, is the middle brother. He's sixteen almost seventeen. Darry's his older brother and Ponyboy's his younger brother. He gets drunk on plain living, and tries to understand everyone. He hates it when Darry and Ponyboy fight. Steve's his best friend. He works with him at the DX gas station and uses the money to help Darry with the bills.

Ponyboy, also called Pony or Pone, is the youngest Curtis brother. He doesn't really like Steve and doesn't get along very good with Darry. He's never talked to anyone about not liking Steve to avoid hurting Soda's feelings. He didn't love anyone more than he loved Sodapop, his older brother. He's fourteen. He's closer to Johnny. He really likes sunsets, movies, and books.

Johnny Cade's skiddish. He's quiet and nervous. He got beat real bad by a Soc which is why he's so nervous all of the time, plus his parents fighting all the time and his dad beating on him makes it worse. He's close with Dally and Ponyboy. He's sweet and soft spoken. He used to be able to put up a good fight before he got jumped by those Socs, now he doesn't really fight. He carries a six inch switchblade now.

Dallas Winston, called Dally or Dal most of the time, is seventeen. He's tough. He's been to jail multiple times and used to live in New York. His dad doesn't care about him and he doesn't care about his dad. He doesn't let anything get to him. He thinks if he's tough like he is he can't get hurt. He's closest with Johnny. He's rough and can be very scary when he wants to be. He can take a good beating and give a great beating.

Keith Matthews, called Two-bit by everyone, no one uses his real name, is nobody's best friend and is best friends with nobody. He has the gang but he doesn't have a specific person to cling on to. He floats from person to person always talking and cracking jokes with them. He has a bit of a drinking problem, but it's not like he's a mean drunk. In fact, you can barely tell when he is and when he isn't sober. He was the wise cracker of the bunch. He carried a black handled switchblade he was very proud of.
